The military in full uniform will march along with some more scantilly or fancifully dressed members of the rainbow community in the Auckland Pride Parade.
Saturday's parade along Ponsonby Road is one of the highlights of the two-week long Auckland Pride Festival.
Parade coordinator Jonathan Smith told NZ Newswire the parade has attracted 42 entries and will involve 55 vehicles and about 1200 people.
Even bigger crowds are expected to line Ponsonby Road for the event, which kicks off at 4pm at Western Park.
About 50 members of the New Zealand Defence Force's Outwatch group - a peer support network for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender personnel - will be among those proudly taking part in the parade.
Defence force staff - including members of the army, navy, air force and civilians - will be able to march in the parade in uniform.
"It's quite significant for us as a community," Mr Smith says.
"It shows how progressive our military really is."
Mr Smith says the defence force personnel are "definitely going to be a crowd favourite".
The last Pride Parade was held in 2001, when it was known as the Hero Parade.
